Fighting Summer Hunger and Stigma

Free school meals became permanent in Massachusetts in 2023, ensuring every child can get nutritious breakfast and lunch during the school year. What happens when school is out? Summer Eats fills the free meal gap, reducing the financial burden on families, providing social opportunities for kids, and ensuring no child goes hungry.

I led a cross-platform Summer Eats campaign, creating content for social and web with the following objectives:

  • Communicate the benefits of free summer meals for kids and teens.

  • Increase Summer Eats utilization.

  • Reduce stigma about free meals.

  • Fundraise for the Summer Eats program

I’ve included a sample of social content I’ve created. In addition to social media work, I developed an editorial strategy, delegating articles to myself and my coworkers.

I wrote the following articles:

And my coworkers wrote the following:

The “Top 5 Places Kids Eat Free Where Summer Happens” was one of the top-viewed blog posts in summer 2025.

This social and web campaign communicated key information with engaging, visually appealing content, making it easy for families to participate. By capturing the fun, vibrant spirit of Summer Eats, the campaign invited kids and teens to join in and enjoy healthy meals all season long, while also raising funds to support the program.
